Common questions
What do I need to get a hazmat endorsement?
You must pass the hazmat knowledge test and a Transportation Security Administration security threat assessment with fingerprints. Federal entry-level driver training rules also apply to many first-time applicants.
How is hazmat different from the general knowledge test?
General knowledge covers safe driving. The hazmat test covers hazard classes, marking, labelling, placarding, shipping papers, loading and parking rules, and emergencies.
Where do I find official emergency information?
The Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG) gives first-response guidance by material. Drivers must know how to use its pages, and the shipping papers must be within reach.
Are these the real test questions?
No. They are original practice questions. Your state's test and the federal rules are the authority, so study your state CDL manual and the ERG.
