What this leaves out

The result is before income tax, self-employment tax, factoring fees, tolls, scale fees, lumper costs, deadhead beyond what you enter and downtime between loads. Rates and fuel change every week, so rerun it with the rate on each load. If your break-even rate is above what brokers are paying on your lanes, the truck will not pay for itself.

Common questions

How do I calculate owner-operator weekly profit?

Multiply paid miles by your rate per mile to get gross revenue, then subtract fuel, maintenance, dispatch fees and fixed costs such as the truck payment and insurance. The calculator on this page does that for you.

What is a break-even rate per mile?

It is the lowest rate per mile where you cover all costs for the week. Below it you lose money on every load. The calculator shows it in the results.

Does the dispatch fee come out of gross?

Yes. Dispatch fees are usually a percentage of the load's gross, so the calculator takes the percentage you enter from gross revenue. Set it to 0 if you book your own loads.

Are the default numbers what I will earn?

No. They are examples to show how the maths works. Your rate, miles, fuel and costs will differ, so enter your own figures.
