Module 3Finding and pricing loads95 min read

Load boards and finding loads

Finding freight is half the job. This lesson takes you inside the load boards, filter by filter and line by line, then shows you how to find freight the boards never show, and how to run a search routine that books the truck before lunch.

In this lesson

  • Freight comes from load boards, broker relationships, direct shippers and repeat lanes. Beginners live on boards; professionals use boards to find brokers, then keep the brokers.
  • Every posting is read the same way: where, when, what, how much, who. If a posting cannot answer all five, that is information too.
  • Search from where the truck will be empty, with the dates it will be empty, inside a radius, and compare loads on net per total mile, not on the headline rate.
  • The posted rate is a starting point. Market rate tools, lane history and the age of the posting tell you what the load is really worth.
  • A better routine beats a bigger subscription. The first 90 minutes of the day decide whether the truck runs loaded or sits.
