In this lesson
- Every paid load needs three documents: the signed rate confirmation, the bill of lading and the signed proof of delivery, plus separate proof for every extra charge.
- Invoice the day the load delivers, with every attachment in one email or one portal upload. Late or incomplete invoices mean late money.
- The signed BOL is the legal receipt for the freight. What is written on it at pickup and at delivery decides who pays for a shortage or damage.
- Follow up on unpaid invoices on a fixed schedule with written records. Escalate in steps, and know when the broker's bond and a transportation attorney come into play.
- Keep records in a consistent digital system with a naming convention, and run a short monthly bookkeeping routine so nothing is lost.
