In this lesson
- Specialized freight pays more because fewer trucks can do it correctly. The premium is payment for equipment, skill, paperwork and risk, not free money, and you only keep it if you manage all four.
- Every niche has its own gate checks: equipment, driver qualification, insurance and cargo limits, accessorials and risk. Run them in that order before you quote, every time.
- Reefer claims, securement failures, hazmat violations and container per diem are the four most expensive mistakes in this lesson. Each one is prevented by a question asked before pickup, not by a phone call after.
- Rates in niches are driven by different things: temperature and season for reefer, dimensions and permits for open deck, hazard class and endorsements for hazmat, appointments and free time for drayage. Learn the driver of each and you can price it.
- You still are not a broker. In every niche the carrier holds the authority, the insurance and the liability, and your job is to represent that carrier honestly and protect its information.
